Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, for a working visit.

The Moldovan government confirmed that Tofan is accompanied by three senior officials. They are Vladimir Bolea, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development; Anatolie Nosatîi, the Minister of Defence; and Dorin Junghietu, the Minister of Energy. Tofan will meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

A statement from the Moldovan government outlined the agenda for the meetings. The two prime ministers plan to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic and trade cooperation. They will also address regional security issues and the progress of both nations toward European Union membership. Tofan and Koretskyi are scheduled to attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum together, an event focused on investment opportunities and economic partnership.

The visit follows recent diplomatic and economic exchanges between the two countries. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to discuss shared energy sector challenges, winter preparations, and bilateral cooperation. Tofan mentioned during his October 12 remarks that Moldova is considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine. He indicated that the topic would be part of the discussions during this current trip to the capital.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu recently stated that her country is prepared to accept a new influx of Ukrainian refugees. She noted that this readiness is in response to the severe humanitarian situation currently affecting Ukraine.
